CHILDHOOD OBESITY
In the United States of America, nearly 25 million children are overweight or obese. According to reports, Childhood Obesity is growing at an alarming rate; one out of four children doesn't participate in any physical activity. If we don't take action now, the lives of an entire generation of youth will be at risk.
Our Approach
Obesity and overweight in our community are major risks factors for a number of chronic diseases, including cancer (endometrial, breast and colon) diabetes and cardiovascular diseases (heart disease and stroke). We take aim at eliminating Childhood Obesity in the New York City area by building Centers all around the state: "Urging kids to eat healthy" by promoting good health through nutrition and physical activity. We plan to work in collaboration with other companies and organizations already involved in the process of fighting Childhood Obesity.
Why Childhood Obesity?
Obesity is mostly prevalent in the poorest socio -economic sectors where level of co-existing nutrient deficiencies may likewise be higher. Poor food are preferred because they are cheap, provide satiety and are widely promoted and readily available. With the overwhelming atmosphere in New York City (hard working families, busy lifestyle, working two jobs) parents are unable to spend enough time at home cooking healthily for the kids. Our Centers will provide parents with the necessary assistance to prevent any further damage by childhood obesity.
How Can You Help?
Health studies have shown that physical activity helps children develop strength, raise their metabolism, and establish healthy fitness habits. Let us will walk together for a common cause: The Elimination of Childhood Obesity. Come join us at our first annual Run /Walk Against Childhood Obesity in Marine Park, Brooklyn along with New York State Senator John L. Sampson's office on September 26th 2009 from 8:30am to 3pm. Please come out to support our youth in a day of fun-filled sports activities and live music (Rain date: Sunday, September 27, 2009). Let's reduce child obesity in our City through exercise and by "Urging kids to eat healthy". Childhood Obesity is preventable. Let's work together to keep our kids healthy and active!
